How to recognize field dangers before they become the whole day

Animals, plants, venom, and environmental danger at hub level. 422 article titles. Species tables stay in the app.

§ 01

The direct answer

Most field injuries from wildlife are identification failures, not heroics. You do not need the Latin name. You need: do not touch, do not eat, do not camp there, and what the first hour looks like if you already did.

Poisonous plants and venomous animals are local. A rule from one continent is a guess on another. Photograph, do not taste. Small creatures (spiders, scorpions, millipedes) cause more field problems than the animals people fear on posters.

This page will not publish species keys or improvised antivenom. 422 titles exist in the offline library. Call emergency services when they exist. This is a reference, not a clinic.

§ 02

Field rule of thumb — before you reach for a plant or an animal

If you cannot positively identify it, you do not eat it, handle it, or camp on it.

Plants
Positive ID or leave it. Contact dermatitis is a common 'just brushed it' failure.
Insects / arachnids
Shake boots, check bedding, do not swat what you cannot see.
Marine
Do not handle what is pretty in the shallows. Blue-ringed and cone shells are not souvenirs.
Large animals
Avoidance beats confrontation. Food smells make you a participant.
After contact
Note time, photograph if safe, immobilize, get help. Do not cut or suck venom.
