Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 31, 2026
The Short Version
The Last Manual collects absolutely no personal data. We operate no servers, no user accounts, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. Everything you do in the app stays on your device. We have no ability to access, view, or share any of your data — because we never receive it.
1. Who We Are and Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how The Last Manual ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with your use of the The Last Manual mobile application (the "App") available on iOS and Android, and our website located at thelastmanual.com (the "Site").
The Last Manual is designed from its foundation as a fully offline application. We do not operate user accounts, a backend database, cloud storage, or any data infrastructure that would hold user information. This is not a design limitation — it is a deliberate architectural decision to protect your privacy absolutely.
This policy applies to all users of the App globally, including users in the European Union (covered by the GDPR), users in California, USA (covered by the CCPA), and users in the United Kingdom (covered by the UK GDPR).
2. Data We Do Not Collect
To be explicit, The Last Manual does NOT collect, process, store, transmit, or share any of the following:
- ✗Your name, email address, phone number, or any other identity information
- ✗Your location or GPS coordinates (the App can read GPS for the map tool, but this data is processed entirely on-device and is never transmitted to us)
- ✗Your device identifiers (IDFA, GAID, IMEI, or similar)
- ✗Your IP address (the website may log IPs transiently through standard web server logs — see Section 11)
- ✗Usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioural data
- ✗Any content you create in the App (checklists, notes, bookmarks, vault documents)
- ✗Your emergency contacts
- ✗Your inventory data
- ✗Any data from the mesh network
- ✗Any data from Safety Burst transmissions (we are not the recipient — your contacts are)
- ✗Any data from Dead Man's Switch alerts (we are not the recipient — your contacts are)
3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device only. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (e.g., by exporting a PDF and sending it yourself). We have no access to this data.
3.1 User-Created Content
Bookmarks, custom checklists, checklist completion states, personal notes, and any content you save within the App are stored in your device's local app storage. This data is deleted when you uninstall the App.
3.2 Emergency Contacts
Names, phone numbers, and relationship labels you store in the App's emergency contacts feature are saved locally on your device. This data is used solely by the Safety Burst and Dead Man's Switch features at your explicit direction. We do not have access to this data.
3.3 Encrypted Document Vault
The Document Vault feature allows you to store photographs of personal documents (IDs, passports, medical records, insurance documents, etc.) on your device. This data is encrypted using your device's biometric authentication system (fingerprint or Face ID). Vault contents are stored entirely within your device's secure enclave and are never transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party under any circumstances. We have no ability to access, decrypt, or recover vault contents.
3.4 Inventory Tracker Data
Supply items, quantities, and expiry dates you log in the Inventory Expiry Tracker are stored locally. Local notifications generated by this feature are processed entirely by your device's operating system. We do not have access to your inventory data.
3.5 Offline Maps
Map packs you download are stored locally on your device. Map data is processed on-device. Your GPS position, when displayed on the map, is read from your device's GPS hardware and processed entirely locally. We do not receive, log, or store your location data.
3.6 App Settings and Preferences
App preferences including display mode, text size, navigation preferences, Dead Man's Switch configuration, and all other settings are stored locally in your device's app storage. This data is not transmitted to us.
4. Safety Burst Feature — Data Transmission Details
The Safety Burst feature is an opt-in feature that, when activated, attempts to transmit a small data packet to your stored emergency contacts.
What data is transmitted:
- →Your GPS coordinates at the time of transmission (latitude and longitude)
- →A safety status indicator you have selected (OK / Need Help / Critical)
- →A timestamp
- →Your custom emergency message (if you have configured one)
Who receives it: Only the emergency contacts you have stored in the App. This data is transmitted directly to them (via standard cellular/data messaging). It is not transmitted to, logged by, or accessible by us.
When it transmits: Only when you explicitly activate the feature, or when the App detects a brief signal window after you have previously activated it. The feature is disabled by default and requires explicit opt-in.
Our role: We are not a recipient of Safety Burst data. We do not act as an intermediary, we do not log transmissions, and we do not have access to any Safety Burst data. The transmission is device-to-recipient only.
5. Dead Man's Switch Feature — Data Transmission Details
The Dead Man's Switch is an opt-in check-in feature. When enabled, if you fail to check in within your configured time window, the App automatically sends an alert.
What data is transmitted in the alert:
- →Your last known GPS coordinates
- →The time of your last check-in
- →Your custom emergency message (if configured)
Who receives it: Only the emergency contacts you have stored in the App. This data is not transmitted to or logged by us.
When it transmits: Only if you have enabled this feature AND the check-in window you configured has elapsed without you checking in. The feature is disabled by default.
Our role:We are not a recipient of Dead Man's Switch alerts. We have no access to any data transmitted by this feature.
6. Mesh Networking Feature
The P2P mesh networking feature uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct to enable direct device-to-device communication with nearby App users. All mesh communications are encrypted end-to-end between participating devices.
We do not operate any server infrastructure for the mesh network. Mesh network messages are not routed through our systems, are not logged by us, and are not accessible to us. The encryption keys are generated locally on each device.
Mesh network sessions are not persistent — the App does not retain a log of mesh network communications beyond the current session. User answers and session data are not saved across sessions.
7. Affiliate Links and Third-Party Retailer Sites
The App contains affiliate links to third-party product retailer websites (including Amazon). These links are only active when you have an internet connection and choose to tap them. When you tap an affiliate link, you are directed to a third-party website.
Once you leave the App and visit a third-party website, that website's own privacy policy governs how your data is handled. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party retailer. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any site you visit. Amazon's privacy policy is available at amazon.com.
The affiliate link click itself may generate standard referral data (such as a referral ID) that identifies us as the referrer to the retailer. This is standard practice in affiliate programmes and does not involve transmission of your personal data to us.
8. The Website (thelastmanual.com)
Our website is a standard web page hosted on a web server. When you visit the website, standard web server logs may temporarily record your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. This is standard web server behaviour and is not used by us for tracking or profiling. Server logs are retained only as long as necessary for security and operational purposes and are not shared with third parties for marketing.
Our website uses functional cookies to operate the waitlist form and remember user session preferences. See our Cookie Policy for full details.
The website's waitlist sign-up form collects your email address and platform preference if you voluntarily submit it. This information is used solely to notify you when the App launches. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties. You may request deletion of your waitlist entry at any time by contacting support@thelastmanual.com or using our Data Deletion page.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union and United Kingdom). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. Because the App itself collects no personal data at all, there is no mechanism through which a child could submit personal data to us via the App.
If you are the parent or guardian of a child and believe your child has submitted personal information to us through the website waitlist, please contact us at support@thelastmanual.com and we will promptly delete it.
10. Data Security
Because we do not collect or store your personal data, there is no central database of user information for us to secure or that could be breached on our end.
All data stored locally by the App on your device is subject to your device's built-in security features, including device-level encryption, app sandbox isolation, and (for the Document Vault) biometric authentication. The security of your locally stored data depends on the security of your device.
You are responsible for maintaining the physical security of your device, keeping your operating system and the App up to date, and using your device's available security features (such as a PIN, password, or biometric lock). If your device is lost, stolen, or compromised, locally stored App data may be accessible to whoever has access to the device.
11. Your Privacy Rights
11.1 GDPR (European Union and United Kingdom)
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have rights including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port personal data that we hold about you, and the right to object to processing. Because The Last Manual holds no personal data about you (other than waitlist email addresses submitted voluntarily through the website), these rights have limited practical application in most cases. If you have submitted your email address to our waitlist, you may exercise your GDPR rights by contacting support@thelastmanual.com. We will respond within 30 days.
11.2 CCPA (California, USA)
California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. The only personal data we may hold is your waitlist email address (if submitted). You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.
11.3 All Users
To exercise any privacy right or to request deletion of waitlist data, contact: support@thelastmanual.com or use our Data Deletion page.
12. Data Retention
We do not retain personal data from App users. Waitlist email addresses are retained until the App launches and all launch notifications have been sent, or until you request deletion, whichever is earlier. After the launch period, all waitlist data is permanently deleted.
All data stored locally on your device by the App is deleted when you uninstall the App, unless your device backup service (e.g., iCloud, Google Drive) has backed up App data — in which case deletion of the backup is within your control via your cloud service settings.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to inform users via the App or website. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Your continued use of the App following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
