The direct answer

A survival map that needs a cell tower is a poster. The Last Manual downloads map packs while you are online (your area, a region, or a country), then tiles, GPS position, waypoints, and routing run on the phone. Free users can open Map and see the UI; packs and navigation unlock with Pro (lifetime $19.99 at launch).

Packs are sized to stay under device and tile limits. Small areas keep higher zoom; large countries drop max zoom so the download does not explode. You pick the box, download on Wi-Fi, then leave. Updates are optional the next time you have a connection.

This is not Google Maps in a WebView. There is no live traffic, no business search, no turn-by-turn voice from the cloud. There is a map of the ground you chose, your GPS dot, and the route the device can compute from that pack. Incoming Comms SOS and location shares plot as pins. Tap one to route there. You can also paste or type latitude and longitude. If the situation is one where you will not have a signal, this is the map that still opens.

What Map does with zero bars

Download once. The rest is on-device.

Tiles
Region packs stored on the phone. No tile server after the download.
GPS
Device GPS for your position. Needs a sky view, not a cell tower.
Waypoints
Drop and save points locally. They do not sync to a cloud account. There isn’t one.
Comms pins
Incoming SOS, location shares, and live peer GPS from Comms. Tap to set a destination.
Coordinates
Paste or type lat/lng. Show drops a pin; Route here starts navigation when GPS is ready.
POI layers
Hospitals, pharmacies, water, stores, police, fuel, fire stations, and camp sites.
Tab bar
Map stays in the tab bar. It does not hide behind article full-screen.
Routing
On-pack routing when the graph is present. Recalculation may wait if you left the downloaded area.
Free vs Pro
Free: UI preview, locked. Pro: packs, GPS, routing, waypoints, Comms pins, typed coordinates.
